The Story of the Florida Jewby’s!
The Florida Jewby’s began on September 30, 1991 when Nancy Ann Goldsmith Sajczuk married James Alan Jewby (goes by Alan). Both had previously been married and both had children from the previous marriages. Alan’s children are: Teresa (divorced with two children: Tyna and Jessie), Chris (divorced with two children: William and Joseph), Michelle (divorced with two children: Greg and Josh) and Kathleen. Nancy’s children are Joseph (divorced with one son: Jaymes and remarried to Bonnie with a new daughter: Lauren) and James (married to Holly with a daughter: Anya and a loving memory of Marek – born 1/7/05 and died 5/18/05).
They met through a newspaper ad that Alan put in with “sometimes a tiger, sometimes a kitten” which intrigued Nancy to respond. After the first date of a Chinese lunch, Feb. 26, 1991, the courtship was all uphill. Alan was almost immediately in love with Nancy, but it took a date over a hot-fudge waffle at Perkins, late in July, for her to finally admit that she loved him.
Alan asked Nancy to marry her three times before she finally accepted and they were engaged on September 25, 1991 with a planned marriage sometime the following year. Nancy’s father passed away after years of heart disease on September 28, 1991. After hours of trying to get affordable airline passage for both Nancy and her son, Joseph, back to New Jersey for the funeral, Alan made the suggestion that Nancy marry him and fly as his wife on United (Free) and split the fare for Joseph.
The entire weekend was then spent trying to find out how to get married; Vegas was ruled out because going stand-by might be difficult to get there and then to NJ in a timely manner. So, Alan and Nancy headed to the Denver courthouse early Monday morning, was married, and on a plane to NJ within 3 hours to help plan the funeral. Joseph arrived late that night.
Two months later, Nancy and Alan headed off for a belated honeymoon to Florida and Disney World! Warmth in the winter….what an idea. As it turns out, when Alan retired 5 years later (his last day was our 5th anniversary!), we decided to relocate to Florida.
During our years of marriage, we have gone camping, family outings, vacations back to Denver to see the growing family, and have discovered cruising! We love to cruise and hope to do another one in the next few years!
Meanwhile, with our 10th grandchild, Lauren, having her first birthday in May 2010 and Gregory (Alan’s oldest grandson) graduating from high school, a May Colorado trip is planned and another in July for Tyna (Alan’s oldest Granddaughter) and Jeff’s marriage.
Family is number one for both Nancy and Alan and most of their trips in the next few years will be to celebrate one event or another. Keep coming back for updates on the happenings of the Florida Jewby’s and their extended families! God Bless.
